Work in progress for the Godot Wild Jam #31

A simple wave defend game. Defend the Line as a Commissar against the orkish hordes.

Low moral Units will start flashing (blue - 50 % moral level / red - 20 % moral level) and will try to run away. Help them regain their will to fight by executing one of the units.
You can also reinforce your depleted units between waves. (A button will pop up above the unit)
Or buy a whole new unit and drag/drop them in an open slot on the map.

Controls:

  • WASD to move
  • SPACE hold down to attack enemies next to the commissar - no button mashing necessary :)
  • Mouse Wheel will zoom the minimap with mouse hovered over it
  • ESCAPE to Pause the Game

Many thanks to the contributors of the Vassal40k Mod for the Vassal Engine for letting me use their artwork. Otherwise this game would just be some black/white boxes ;)

19.April
Added/adjusted proper attack visuals and FX  for all units.
Next up is adding updates for the units.
Then propably movement/behaviour changes.

25. March
A little late but added GLES 2 browser export and win/X11/MacOS versions...

22. March
will add a GLES2 export after the jam, because the current GLES3 export bugs out on people

21. March
export version broken because of automated texture loading script ... took some time to figure out. Previous uploaded version was not playable.
little time left for balancing and minor tweaks like positive feedback of commissar mellee attack and some audio

20. March
added terrain
added sound fx
expanded unit diversity
added pause / volume options
still needs tweaking

17. March
added reinforcement options. either drop a new unit in a free slot or reinforce an existing unit
commissar can now attack
its still pretty unbalanced but kinda playable
need more unit diversity

16. March summary of the last days, too lazy to type it all out...
added a minimap for better orientation
added basic menu
added wave spawn system, needs expansion
track the amount of enemies killed
enemies move to objective marker if there is no ally in sight
after rallying an ally, it will try to return to starting position if no enemy in sight
added health bar for commissar
if the commissar dies or all allied units either die or rout off the map, its game over
now its time for some balancing....
thinking about adding things to spend your points on:
reinforcements of existing units
drag/drop units in the defense slots (squads, support weapons and such)
maybe upgrades for the commissar

13. March
The idea is a Wave Defense Game, where you play as a Commissar/political Officer who's task is to raise the fighting spirit of the defending units by killing enemies, being in the vicinity of allied units or simply executing allied units.
Morally broke allies try to flee. Not rallying them by methods described above results in them fleeing the battlefield.

This is more of a hommage to the Warhammer 40k Commissar unit than to the historical counterpart. That being said:
